As times, cultures and technology changes one thing remains the same: the importance of family. On this wonderful day and the beginning of the 2015 holiday season ( I know it came way too fast) I want to remind everyone to take a little breather from your fast paced life and spend some unforgettable moments with the people you love. Take this time not only to give thanks for the things you have but also to give thanks to the people you still have in your life because not everyone is able to spend this holiday season with the people they love.
Another thing that doesn’t change in this ever changing environment is tradition. We all know the regulars: turkey, family, giving thanks. But in a Hispanic-American household, those things are carried out a little differently. If Thanksgiving dinner is at your house then you know that the festivities actually start the day before. And by festivities I mean loud Spanish music playing at 7am and women yelling at you to do something because company is coming. It also means that you have to pick out the best outfit you can so that your family can criticize it.
Now the day of thanksgiving we all know we must prepare for it. I want to give you all little tips and reminders for preparation.
I wanna start off with the guys because for some reason you guys have it the easiest. Just remember to get a nice haircut, cover your tattoos, and it’s probably a good idea to leave the earrings at home for this one. You don’t want to give grandma a heart attack.
If you have kids just prepare yourself to hear a million different suggestions on how you should be raising them. There’s really nothing you can do about that one. Just try not to talk back.
If you’re married and don’t have kids, you should come up with a short but good excuse as to why you don’t have any. That question is going to be the only thing you hear that day so make sure you have a good one.
Now the girls have it the worst on the holidays. If you have a boyfriend and you’re taking him to dinner with your family, prepare him to be criticized by every woman in that house. If you don’t have a boyfriend, come up with a good excuse why you don’t cause you’re gonna hear that question a million times. Also be mindful of what you wear to dinner. It’s probably not a good idea to wear the same thing you wear to the club. Remember grandmas heart is not as young as it used to be.
And my last suggestion for everyone is to have fun. Enjoy this precious time with your family cause you only get one. And don’t forget, calories don’t count on the holidays so
Let’s Eat!!!!
